We know bees play an important role in food security, biodiversity, and ecosystem health. There are lots of ways we can support bees through our planting choices, selective use of herbicides and insecticides, and providing habitat supports.
A big THANKS to everyone who attended our Berridale workshop! We're running one more in Jindabyne this Sunday May 12 from 10am to 12:30pm. Free registration, free morning tea, and a free seedling! Register via Eventbrite
Preparing for Spring: To Prune or NOT to Prune?
Pre-spring pruning is a common concern around the Snowy Monaro, and there's no single answer.
Generally speaking, the best time to prune natives is after they flower.
A few things to consider:
- Is the old/damaged growth a hazard or annoyance that detracts from your enjoyment? Prune.
- Are the older/frost damaged leaves protecting new/young growth? Wait to prune.
- Is there evidence of disease? Prune
- Does this species flower in early spring? Wait to prune.
This great Citizen Science event is happening again this September. We'll be co-hosting events in Berridale, East Jindabyne, and Cooma, plus you can participate wherever you are!
