Why We Do
What We Do
Wagtail Natives Nursery is a Social Enterprise that works
to improve our environment and strengthen our community.
What is a social enterprise?
A social enterprise is a business, for good. They trade like any other business, but exist to make the world a better place.
Social enterprises do three things:
-
Have a social, cultural or environmental purpose
-
Generate a substantial portion of their income from trade
-
Invest profit & resources into their purpose so that public/community benefit outweighs private benefit
Our Social Impact
Restoring native landscapes
We grow healthy plants destined for plantings that help improve air, soil and water quality.
As they grow, they provide ecosystem services that benefit all local wildlife - including us.
Protecting native species
We nurture local native flora species to help protect them from extinction.
These plants pay it forward by providing habitat and food for native fauna.
Fostering community connections
We work together with local businesses and organisations to help create a more resilient, relational community.
Sharing our knowledge
We take every opportunity to share information about our local native species through markets, events, workshops, and newsletters.
Giving gardeners good choices
We help gardeners choose plants that are good for their gardens and great for our local wildlife.
Less weedy plants in gardens means less weeds in our bushland.
Educational and entertaining events
We run and support events that encourage people to learn more about our environment while capturing data that informs scientific research.
How can you support social enterprise?
Social enterprises come in many forms, from coffee shops to law firms, but each one exists to help solve a problem in our community.
Every time you #Switch2Good and purchase from a social enterprise, you’re supporting locals working hard to make the world a little bit better.
